1. When can we play?
Members can play almost anytime as often and long as you like! You simply turn up, let yourself in using the combination lock on the double gates or the far gate. You will be given the code when you become a member. There are always free courts except when there are official functions and we’ll tell you in advance about these.
2. When can’t we play?
On Fun and Coaching Days. There are also a very small number of times during the SUMMER TERM when we allow other organizations to use the courts so members may not get a court. These are as follows:
Monday and Tuesday 4.50pm – 6.15pm
Wednesday 2.20pm – 3.40pm
3. Is there a dress code?
No, wear what you like along with suitable non-marking shoes.
4. Is the joining fee a one-off?
Yes – after that you simply pay an annual membership fee – and because we are run by volunteers it’s one of the cheapest and best membership deals in the country.
5. Will membership fees increase?
This is reviewed annually. It’s likely to increase next year due to the cost of improvements to the courts and because members are increasingly looking for coaching and club nights and events.
6. How do you contact members?
Via email.
7. Do you offer coaching?
Yes. If you are interested in learning about opportunities for coaching please email us at leagues@douaitennis.org. We also hold fun days when the coaching is free.
8. Are our coaches qualified and insured? Yes our coaches have Lawn Tennis Association qualifications and are all licensed and recommended by Berkshire LTA. They are also insured and have been cleared to work with children by the Criminal Records Bureau.
9 Does the Club have insurance? Yes we pay to be affiliated to the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) which gives us adequate levels of insurance. See here for details.
10. Can I just turn up and find a partner to play with?
Only on fun days. But if you are looking for a regular partner contact one of the committee and they will try to put you in touch with another member of similar standard.
11. Wimbledon
We are allocated a small number of tickets for Wimbledon each year for which we are charged. We hold a draw for these and members who win the draw must pay for those tickets. To be eligible, members must also be members of the British Tennis Association, which is free. The club makes a minimal profit on each ticket.
